Imagine a fashion designer without a sewing machine and a farmer without his tools, that is a makeup artist without makeup brushes. Makeup brushes like the name implies are tools that are used for creating various makeup looks. It has a lot to do with how beautiful and flawless your makeup look turns out. That is why investing in the right brushes for makeup is key.

Oops! .. Almost forgot, as much as getting the right tools for creating your makeup look is important, knowing your skin tone also is, as it helps you get the right products.
I have covered on this post several makeup brushes and their uses as well as where you can get makeup brush sets at affordable prices. To purchase any of the brush set, click on the link under each photo and it would take you to the exact page.

How they are designed.

Different makeup brushes were designed for different purposes, that is why some have slanted bristles, some have full and long bristles, while others have full and short bristles. You would also find the big fat ones and the small slim ones depending on what it was designed to do.

Controlling Your Makeup brushes

Another thing I would love to point out before we officially dive into different makeup brushes and their uses is how they are held. Something makeup artists call control of makeup brushes.

Imagine again, an artist with his properly sharpened pencil, putting so much pressure into drawing on his drawing paper. He would end up creating thick lines that he cannot erase with ease without ruining his work because of the way he controlled his pen.

Same applies to us makeup artists. Our brushes are our pencils and control is key if you want to create a flawless look.

When handling your makeup brushes, you want to give it less control. Holding the makeup brush very close to the bristles is bad practice, instead hold it at the center or below if you are creating a light effect.
With all these said, let us dive right into makeup brushes and their uses.

Brow Brushes and their uses

Spoolie brush

Makeup brushes and their uses: Spoolie brush

Spoolie brush used for brow grooming and drawing.

The Spoolie brush has brush-like strings to make it easy to brush out your eyebrows. Just before you start using your brow filler or brow pencil to draw the lines on your brow, you use the Spoolie brush to brush your brows into shape.
Other uses: The Spoolie brush is used to brush out the brows before you start grooming your brows and many more times in between to ensure your brows is having your desired shape.

The brow brush looks a lot like the brow filler brush. The main difference is that the brush has a longer holder and the bristles are longer in length than that of the brow filler brush. The brush was also designed with a slanted edge to make it easy to apply concealer along the lines above and below your brows.

Other uses: It can be used for applying liquid contour and highlight in hidden or deep ends of the face, or in areas where you need to apply products with care, like areas around the nose and under the eyes.

Many beginners find it hard using the right eyeshadow colors, why not start off with eyeshadow colors that can match anyone before proceeding into experimenting with other colors?

However, it’s not a fixed pattern to follow, just be creative.

The lipstick brush is a small brush that makes lipstick application much easier. So many people do not see the need for a lipstick brush and we mentioned this mistake and others in our post on mistakes you make before applying lipstick.
After using a lip liner whose shade is close or same as the lipstick shade, use the lipstick brush to take your lipstick color and apply on the lips. You can go in as many times as you want until you achieve what you desire.
To achieve lined lips, use your concealer brush and take small amount of foundation and line the side of your lips into your desired shape.
